How to Clean a House Before Moving In

Finding your dream home can feel wonderful. You probably can't wait to put your furniture and things in it, in order to make it feel like a home! However, before you even think about moving in, you should consider doing a deep clean. This will ensure that your new home is squeaky clean before you move all of your things in. It will also help to keep your family safe from germs that were left behind when the last owners moved out!

Here Are Some Things That You Should Do Before You Start Moving Into a New Home

1. Start-Up High

When dusting and cleaning, you should always start high. Clean your ceiling fans, overhead lighting fixtures, shelves, and other things that are higher up, before you do the floor. Otherwise, you will have to do the floor again, once the dust finds its way down there.

2. Clean the Kitchen Thoroughly

You are going to want to wipe down all surfaces, as well as clean the appliances. Make sure that you really clean the fridge out, so that you can move your cold things into it right away! You should also wipe down the walls and cabinets.

3. You Are Going to Want to Do the Same in the Bathrooms

Thoroughly clean the bathrooms, including the sinks, tubs, and shower. Don't forget to wipe down the walls and cabinets also, as well as light switches and the toilet paper hanger.

4. Clean the Windows and Their Frames

It is easier to clean the windows and the frames around them when you don't have any curtains on them! So, be sure to give them a good cleaning before you move in. If the previous owners left you blinds, it helps to take them outside to wash them off. If they left you curtains, you can throw them in the washing machine to get them cleaner!

5. Wipe the Baseboards

You should wipe the baseboards down well before you wash the floors.

6. Vacuum the Floors Thoroughly

It is always a good idea to vacuum the floors before you put any furniture inside. You may also want to consider shampooing the carpet if it needs it. This is a whole lot easier to do when the room is empty, rather than filled with furniture and things that you have to go around.

7. Sweep and Mop the Other Floors

You should sweep and mop the floors in the kitchen, bathroom, and other rooms that don't have carpet. Make sure that you don't miss the corners. There is often plenty of dust hidden in the corners of a room!

8. If You Are Too Overwhelmed by This Task, Don’t Forget to Ask a Professional

There are many companies that would be happy to make your new home shine for you! They will clean your new home top to bottom to make sure that it is safe and clean enough for you to move in!

When you buy a new home, it is important that you give it a good clean before you move in. You are going to want to wash away any germs that the previous owners left. Some things, such as shampooing the carpets, are also easier to do when there is nothing in your home. So, grab your gloves and cleaning supplies and start wiping things down, top to bottom!
