If you want to make sure that your mattress lasts, you need to take care of it. You are going to need to clean it regularly. It is also healthier since it can dust mites, dead skin, dirt, and other debris. If you have allergies, your mattress will need to be cleaned even more! You may also want to clean it more often if you allow your pets into your bed.

So, How Can You Clean Your Mattress?

Here are the steps that you need to take:

1. Before You Even Get Started, You Need to Get All of the Supplies That You Will Need

This includes a vacuum, laundry, dish detergent, baking soda, old rags, and cold water.

2. Remove Your Bedding and Wash It

This is a good time to wash all of your sheets. You may even be able to wash your pillow too. Use hot water to get rid of the dust mites.

3. Vacuum the Mattress

You should start by using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum to clean the entire mattress and the sides. Use extra attention in the crevices, where dust may be hiding.

4. Spot-Clean Your Mattress

Since you can't put it in the washer or even wet it down, you are going to have to spot-clean your mattress. You just need to use a little bit of product to carefully blot the stain. Then, you can use cold water to wipe it away. You don't want to use too much product.

5. If You Can, Take It Outside

Leaving your mattress out for a few hours is a great way to freshen it up. The fresh air can really make a difference.

6. If You Can’t, You Can Use Baking Soda

You will want to sprinkle baking soda over the entire mattress. If you are able to, leave it on for several hours (or even overnight). This will break down the acid and help with any odors that may have gotten into it.

7. Then, You Will Have to Vacuum the Baking Soda Off

After a few hours, it is time to get rid of it. Vacuum your mattress until all of the baking soda is gone.

8. Flip the Mattress and Start All Over

After one side is clean, it is time to do the other side. You are going to want to vacuum it, spot-clean it, and then use baking soda for any odors.

9. In Order to Keep Your Mattress Going as Long as You Can, You Should Protect It

This means that you should use a mattress protector. Not only will this save your mattress, but it will also keep dust mites and other allergens down.

Since mattresses aren't cheap, you should try to clean them and flip them regularly. Most of them should be flipped every few months to wear evenly. While you are doing that, you should wash your bedding, vacuum the dust mites up, spot clean it, and even use baking soda to keep it as fresh as possible. Though this may take a while, it will really make a difference in your home.
